Britney Spears’ Father, Jamie Spears, Suspended As Britney Spears’ Conservator

A judge on Wednesday removed Britney Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, from her conservatorship, following a long, drawn-out legal battle that has persisted since the pop star was placed under the court-ordered arrangement more than 13 years ago.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny on Wednesday granted the 39-year-old singer’s request to immediately suspend her father as conservator of her estate, a role he has filled since the conservatorship’s creation in early 2008.

Penny appointed John Zabel, a certified public accountant nominated by Britney Spears, to oversee her finances on a temporary basis.

“Britney Spears deserves to wake up tomorrow without her father as her conservator,” her attorney, Mathew Rosengart, argued in court on Wednesday.

No decision was made today on the fate of the conservatorship altogether, which Rosengart said should be terminated this fall.

Rosengart told the judge that the pop star agreed with his proposed course of action to first suspend her father and then to terminate the conservatorship, which would be in her best interest.
