Georgia Student Charged After He Was Filmed Attacking Classmate Wearing Rainbow Flag

Criminal charges have reportedly been filed after a Georgia high school student who was caught on camera attacking a classmate seen wearing an LGBTQ pride flag as a cape.

Lowndes County Sheriff Ashley Paulk announced Friday that a juvenile suspect at Lowndes High School had been charged with disorderly conduct, simple battery and disruption of a public facility, according to The Valdosta Daily Times.

The charges came less than 24 hours after the video was widely circulated on social media.

In the short 11-second video, which appears to have been recorded in the high school’s cafeteria, a student wearing a black t-shirt can be seen rushing up to a table where a student in a rainbow wig sits draped in the rainbow pride flag.

The attacker is then seen violently ripping the flag off the seated student, causing the victim to fall to the ground.

Another student, who was sitting next to the victim, is then seen attempting to physically intervene as the attacker is seen angrily throwing the flag into a nearby trash can.

Another female student, who can be seen in the foreground of the video, smiles and laughs as she turns away during the attack.

Social media posts by students at the school allege that the apparent assault took place over a $5 bet and name the student who purportedly carried out the attack.
