Bernie Sanders Baffled After GOP Senator Clarifies He Didn’t Call Him An ‘Ignorant Slut’

During Neera Tanden’s Senate confirmation hearing Tuesday, the president of the Center for American Progress and now President Biden’s nominee for Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) apologized for old, now-deleted tweets that jabbed at politicians such as “vampires have more heart than Ted Cruz.”

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) blasted Biden’s nominee over her past rhetoric against Republicans and progressives alike, including Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).

“I’m very disturbed about your personal comments about people,” Kennedy said at a Senate Budget Committee confirmation hearing.

“I mean, you called Sen. Sanders everything but an ignorant slut.”

The remark was a reference to “Saturday Night Live” skits from the 1970s involving the “Weekend Update” anchors Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtin.

After a tense back and forth over whether Tanden meant what she said in her tweets, Kennedy wanted the record to show that he, himself, did not call Bernie Sanders an ignorant slut.

“I want the record to reflect that I did not call Senator Sanders an ignorant slut,” Kennedy said.

Sanders shot back, “I don’t know how I should take that, Senator Kennedy.”
