A video posted to social media shows a violent confrontation between a motorist and a pedestrian in New York City after the driver was filmed yelling a racist slur.
“Hey yo, it’ll be smart to get out of the middle of the street asshole. F*cking n****r,” the unidentified man yells from his car at a black sanitation worker on Saturday.
“Are you recording me?” the driver says when he realizes someone is pointing a cellphone towards him.
“Yeah,” the man filming him responds.
“Why?” the driver asks.
“Because you’re an asshole,” he responds.
“I’m an asshole? Honey, look in the mirror okay. The only person who is an asshole is you for recording,” the driver snaps back.
“You are so fierce,” the pedestrian mockingly responds.
“I know I am thank you. Are you gay too?” the driver asks.
“No,” the pedestrian said.
“No, you’re not? Well you look like it,” the driver fired back.
When asked what he was planning to do with the recording, the pedestrian informs the driver he plans to upload it to the internet.
The driver laughs at his response before saying, “Okay. I’ll get fans, honey. That’s what I’ll do.”
Moments later, the driver exits his vehicle and assaults the pedestrian, grabbing his phone and throwing it against the pavement.
A YouTuber uploaded a video of the racist attack on Sunday, claiming the “incident occurred on East 85th St, between 1st and York Ave, at approximately at 6:00pm, on Saturday, July 18th, 2020. Prior to this clip, the driver of the vehicle, purportedly Joey / Joseph O’Brian, was repeatedly shouting at a Black sanitation worker, yelling ‘you’re a n*****.’ The noise was enough for several residents to come down to the street level. When filmed and confronted, O’Brian took a bystander’s phone and threw it on the ground. The passenger did nothing.”
The video was later retweeted by city council candidate Andrew Beckford on Sunday.
“Racist on the Upper East Side. Find out who this racist person is and let us hold them accountable. This and any other act of racism will NOT be tolerated,” Beckford wrote. “As City Council Member of #District45, I will be holding these racists accountable.”

Gay Twitter was quick to disavow the racist New Yorker as being an official member of the LGBTQ community, with one Twitter user writing: “As a gay, we don’t claim him.”
As a gay we don’t claim him

That’s sad. It’s how I feel about black folks who are homophobic. If you are part of a marginalized group, you should reject discrimination of any and every kind.

Yep there are indeed racist gay men. I (white)was in a gay club with my partner (black). He went to the bathroom. While there a white man approached me and asked my I wasted my time with a N instead of someone like him. Told him 2 say that 2 my partner (6’5” 320). He left.
