Trump “Upset” After White House Valet Who Serves His Meals, Drinks Tests Positive For COVID-19

A member of the US Navy who serves as one of President Trump’s personal White House valets has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, raising concerns about the president’s possible exposure to the virus.

Trump was “upset” when he was informed Wednesday that the valet had tested positive, a source told CNN, and the President was subsequently tested again by the White House physician.

“We were recently notified by the White House Medical Unit that a member of the United States Military, who works on the White House campus, has tested positive for Coronavirus,” principal White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley said in a statement.

“The President and the Vice President have since tested negative for the virus and they remain in great health,” Gidley added.

The infected valet, who is regularly in the West Wing and works as a personal assistant to Trump, began experiencing symptoms of the virus before testing positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, CNN first reported.

Valets assist the President and first family with a variety of personal tasks including serving food and beverage orders to the president in the West Wing and while traveling the country.

A White House source told CNN that the valet began exhibiting “symptoms” Wednesday morning, and said the news that someone close to Trump had tested positive for coronavirus was “hitting the fan” in the West Wing.

“Still, the White House has not enforced strict social distancing guidelines for staffers and few people inside the building wear masks during the day, including valets,” reports CNN.

A Defense Department spokesman said, “As with any other service member who tests positive, the individual will quarantine in their residence, and will receive medical care as needed.”

As of noon Thursday, the president was still planning to meet with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott at 2 p.m., reports CNBC. He is then scheduled to speak at the White House for a National Day of Prayer Service.
