CNN’s Anderson Cooper Calls Las Vegas Mayor ‘Ignorant’ During ‘Totally Insane’ Interview

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper on Wednesday interviewed Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman about her push to reopen casinos amid the coronavirus pandemic, but the interview quickly went off-the-rails and ended with Cooper condemning Goodman for making “ignorant” statements about Chinese people.

During the interview, Goodman said she is willing to offer the city as a “control group” if it is allowed to reopen.

When Cooper attempted to show Goodman a graphic illustrating how quickly the virus spreads in confined spaces, the mayor interrupted to make an “ignorant statement,” according to Cooper.

“Chinese researchers have shown how this virus spreads, I just wanna put up for our viewers,” Cooper said. “I just wanna put up for our viewers, this is a restaurant-”

“Anderson, you are tough,” the mayor interjects with a laugh. “This isn’t China, this is Las Vegas, Nevada.”

“Wow, OK, that’s really ignorant,” Cooper responded.

“That’s ignorant to say?” Goodman asked.

“That’s an ignorant, ignorant statement. That’s a restaurant, yes in China, but they are human beings too,” Cooper fired back as he continued to explain the graphic.

At one point, Cooper called out the mayor for making absolutely “no sense” in arguing for reopening the casinos.

Late-night television host and former Las Vegas resident Jimmy Kimmel called Goodman an “embarrassment to my hometown.”

“Dear Las @Vegas. It would appear that your @mayoroflasvegas Carolyn Goodman is dangerously misguided. I am not easily shocked anymore, but the interview she is doing with @andersoncooper @cnn right now is bonkers.”

Here’s the moment Cooper lost his cool during the bonkers interview:
