Hours before President Trump is set to deliver a State of the Union address that aides have said will strike a note of bipartisanship, Trump warned that his administration is prepared to “build a human wall if necessary,” amid ongoing talks to prevent another government shutdown over funding for his long-promised border wall between the U.S. and Mexico.
“Tremendous numbers of people are coming up through Mexico in the hopes of flooding our Southern Border,” Trump tweeted Tuesday. “We have sent additional military. We will build a Human Wall if necessary. If we had a real Wall, this would be a non-event!”

Trump’s threat to build a “human wall” at the border came after the Pentagon announced on Sunday it would deploy approximately 3,750 additional U.S. forces to the southwest border for 90 days.
The deployment raised the total active duty forces supporting U.S. Customs and Border Protection to about 4,350.
The president has remained firm in his demand to make U.S. taxpayers pay $5.7 billion in funding for his border wall after repeatedly promising to make Mexico pay for it.
Trump’s tweet was relentlessly mocked on Twitter:

• We will build a concrete wall
• We will build a steel slat wall
• We will build a steel barrier you can look through
• We will build a human wall

May Trump's Human Wall idea remind us that an estimated 400,000 bodies of construction workers are buried within the Great Wall of China. Throughout history, giant walls (including Berlin) have represented tyranny. #WallOfHumans #History pic.twitter.com/8HoIs5KGMY
