Trump Awarded The ‘Golden Idiot’ Prize For 4th Year In A Row As World Mocks His Presidency

President Donald Trump, who called on authorities to investigate NBC’s comedy sketch show Saturday Night Live over its unfair treatment of his presidency, has been awarded the ‘golden idiot’ trophy for the fourth year in a roll.

German satire program Heute-Show, presented by comedian and journalist Oliver Welke on the ZDF network, named President Trump the Goldener Vollpfosten—translated as “Golden Idiot” or “Golden Dumbass”—for the fourth year in a row.

However, this year’s title is being shared with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong Un and the whole United Kingdom, among others, reports The Washington Post’s Rick Noack.

Trump kicked off his Sunday morning by tweeting a complaint against NBC, claiming that the network’s SNL “should be tested in courts” for their negative and “unfair” coverage of his presidency.

“A REAL scandal is the one sided coverage, hour by hour, of networks like NBC & Democrat spin machines like Saturday Night Live,” Trump tweeted.

He continued: “It is all nothing less than unfair news coverage and Dem commercials. Should be tested in courts, can’t be legal? Only defame & belittle! Collusion?”

Trump’s suggestion appears to disregard the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which says “Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press.”

In September, Trump tweeted: “Isn’t it a shame that someone can write an article or book, totally make up stories and form a picture of a person that is literally the exact opposite of the fact, and get away with it without retribution or cost. Don’t know why Washington politicians don’t change libel laws?”

And in March 2017 he tweeted: “The failing @nytimes has disgraced the media world. Gotten me wrong for two solid years. Change libel laws?”

Trump suggested that NBC’s broadcasting license should be revoked in a September tweet.
