Caitlyn Jenner: Trump Has Been ‘Extraordinarily Disappointing’, I Don’t Know What Happened

Former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner, who was once a staunch supporter of President Trump, says Trump has been “extraordinarily disappointing” and has “not been doing a very good job” when it comes to LGBTQ issues.

“I honestly don’t know what happened when he got in there,” Jenner said in an interview with Variety published Tuesday for its “Trans Hollywood” issue. “It was extraordinarily disappointing.”

A Jenner source told Variety that the “Keeping up With the Kardashians” star would like to meet privately with Trump after the midterm elections in November.

“Today, I’m very politically involved,” she said. “Nobody really knows it. I do it very quietly because I have been so criticized by the liberal side of the media. I can get more things done if I don’t stick my nose into everything publicly.”

Earlier this year, Jenner called the Trump administration the “worst” thing to happen to the LGBTQ rights movement.

“They’ve set our community back 20 years, easily,” Jenner said then.

The Hill added:

She slammed Trump in 2017 after he ordered the termination of federal protections for transgender students that allowed them to use restrooms that align with their gender identity.

Jenner also criticized the Trump administration’s move last year to ban transgender people from serving in the military. An appeals court ruled against the administration’s move last month and upheld a court order stalling the ban.

Jenner said she’s now pushing for “hard-core” federal legislation that would allow transgender individuals to serve in the U.S. military.

“We need hard-core legislation, laws on the book of equality,” she said.

“It’s going to take some time, but we’re working on it.”

Jenner also said she’s been meeting privately with Trump adminstration officials and about 50 lawmakers, including House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI).

“I met with Paul Ryan,” Jenner said. “I’ve met with just about everybody. Publicly, they aren’t supportive of transgender rights.”

But “I’ve never had anybody not be nice to my face,” Jenner added.
