Israeli Air Force Shares Photo Of Gay Officer And His Husband To Celebrate ‘Family Day’

The Israeli Air Force has just included a gay air force officer and his husband in its celebration of Family Day.

On its official Facebook page, the Israeli Air Force posted photos of military members and their families and didn’t forget their gay officers.

Capt. Adir Gabbai and his partner, Dean, met while in the air force. “For them, the air force family will always be ‘the place where I met my family’” read their post.

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reports that this act of inclusion received mixed reviews, with some praising the air force and others criticizing it.

But the air force stood firm in its support and responded back to the criticisms with the following:

“In honor of Family Day, we have chosen to carry out a project presenting all of the kinds of families that serve in the air force, including also same-sex families. From our standpoint, they are all equal and all of us are one big family.”

The post prompted a mixed reaction, according to  Haaretz:

Some comments that expressed praise or stated that the air force should encourage openness and others that were critical, suggesting that the could should reserve their “right to privacy” and another asking why it would interest anyone and adding: “You’re the air force, not some party of crazy people!!!”
