Over the weekend, we reported that the NFL may choose not to host further Super Bowls in Texas if the state passes a new proposed “bathroom bill” targeting transgender people. Well now it would seem that the state’s governor thinks the whole idea is one big joke.
Mocking the NFL’s “decision makers” on Twitter, Republican Gov. Greg Abbott made the odd comparison of the league’s veiled threat and NFL player Tom Brady and the New England Patriots winning the latest edition of the Super Bowl (coincidently hosted in Houston) despite the league’s decision to suspend Brady last season.
You can read what he tweeted out on Saturday below.
NFL decision makers also benched Tom Brady last season. It ended with NFL handing the Super Bowl trophy to Brady. https://t.co/Qg06jT9RDp

Already some Texans on Twitter have voiced their discontent over the governor’s words.
@GregAbbott_TX Why do you want to hurt our Texas economy? You and Lt Dan need to GO. We will not reElect you faux Christians.

@GregAbbott_TX @CBSNews Hey you got to be governor of Texas. Watch your constituents bench you. #soon #RESISTANCE

@GregAbbott_TX @CBSNews your analogy is crap. The issue in TX has to do with human rights, not if a quarterback can play in a game.
