YouTuber’s Father Admits He Contemplated Suicide When His Son Came Out

Popular gay YouTuber Riyadh Khalaf recently interviewed his parents, Lorraine and Sam, about their reactions to his coming out years earlier.

His vlog took a shocking turn when his father, who was born and raised in Iraq, revealed that he had contemplated suicide when his son came out to him in a letter.

“I just read it and I was like, waiting to sink in,” said Sam. “I was like, ’Really? No, it can’t be. Is it?’ It was just so confusing, because something just hits you like, bang — and you’re not really expecting it, and you’ll be thinking of what to do, and the family, but when you think about it, it’s just so stupid.”

“I actually got up that night after you all went to sleep, I think at 3 or 4 o’clock in the morning sitting on the deck, and I was looking for a tablet to commit suicide.”

“Imagine if you would have done that, how stupid that would have been” Lorraine tells him.

Riyadh adds, “And all because of a few fuckin’ dickheads with opinions that you were afraid of.”

Riyadh’s mother said she initially struggled with her son’s coming out.

He says he came out to his mother first, who was very supportive.
