Watch The Awkward Moment Steve Harvey Crowned The Wrong Miss Universe

Miss Universe pageant host Steve Harvey announced the wrong winner at the end of Sunday night’s contest in Las Vegas and was forced to make an embarrassing apology on Live TV.

Steve Harvey at Miss Universe 2015: I Made A Horrible Mistake

Steve Harvey crowned the wrong Miss Universe contestant, which was probably the most awkward moment ever

After announcing Miss USA, Olivia Jordan, as the third runner-up, Harvey mistakenly named Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo, as the new Miss Universe, leaving the remaining contestant, Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurzbach, as the second runner-up.

But moments after Arevalo received her crown and a bouquet of flowers, Harvey announced that he had made an error and that Wurzbach was in fact the real winner.

A stunned Wurzbach then walked out to center stage where last year’s Miss Universe, Colombia’s Paulina Vega, removed the crown from Avrevalo’s head and placed it on Wurtzbach.

Harvey, who was hosting the pageant for the first time (and probably the last time), held up the card announcing the order of finishers for the cameras to see up close after he announced his gaffe. Harvey said he re-read the card and noticed it said “first runner-up” next to the Colombia contestant’s name and then asked the show’s producers if he had made a mistake.

“Nobody feels worse about this than me,” Harvey said.

Harvey took to social media to again express his deepest apologies for the embarrassing mistake.

The Miss Universe organization issued a statement late Sunday to apologize for the mix up.

“The excitement of live TV was evident tonight on The Miss Universe stage with over 10 million live fan votes tabulated. Unfortunately, a live telecast means that human error can come into play. We witnessed that tonight when the wrong winner was initially announced. Our sincerest apologies to Miss Universe Colombia 2015, Ariadna Gutierrez-Arévalo, Miss Universe Philippines 2015, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, their families and fans.”
