Students Form “Dance Circle Of Love” To Drown Out Preacher’s Anti-Gay Hate On Campus

When students at the University of Wisconsin — Madison heard a homophobic campus preacher yelling at students, calling women wearing yoga pants whores, while wearing a “God Destroyed Sodom & Gomorrah” shirt, they responded by forming a circle of love around him and dancing to Drake’s new song, “Hotline Bling.”

Freedom From Religion Foundation attorney Andrew Seidel shared his account of the student dance protest on Facebook:

One of the Freedom From Religion Foundation’s interns, Chris Line, took this photo at Univ. Wisc. In the center of this happy, dancing crew is an anti-gay preacher. He’d be the one with the Sodom and Gomorrah t-shirt.

Preacherman was yelling at girls in yoga pants, calling them whores, and insulting everyone else. Ironically (or perhaps tellingly) for a homophobe, he would only talk to men, shunning the women. He was so extreme Chris wonders if he wasn’t some sort of attention seeking impostor.

The students were quickly fed up with his hate and started dancing around him while singing Drake’s new song, “Hotline Bling.” More students joined in the singing and dancing. Other numbers included, “Crank That (Soulja Boy).” The students drowned out the hateful, stunned preacher.

Humanity 1, Religion 0.

Cheers to Chris for capturing this beautiful moment and memorializing joy in the face of such blind hate. See more of his photos here:
