Police On The Hunt For Man Caught On Camera Setting A Gay Nightclub On Fire In Florida

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and State Fire Marshal are asking the public for assistance identifying a man suspected of setting a Sarasota gay nightclub on fire.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office reports that a neighbor reported flames at the front entrance of Throb Nightclub around 9 a.m. Sunday, at 2201 Industrial Blvd.

Surveillance video captured the suspect, described by police as a tan-skinned male wearing a dark long-sleeved shirt and light colored shorts, walk up to the door carrying a gas can.

According to police, the suspect attempted to light the fire with a lit cigarette, but after failing on his first attempt, he re-approaches the business, starts the fire and walks away from the area.

Sprinklers stopped the fire from spreading to the rest of the business, but damage was estimated to be more than $10,000, officials said.

Anyone with information should call the sheriff’s office or the State Fire Marshal’s arson hotline at 877-662-7766.
