Christmas has arrived early in Paris this year!
Tree, a sculpture by the American artist Paul McCarthy, was erected yesterday in Place Vendôme.
The sculpture is the controversial centerpiece of the International Contemporary Art Fair (FIAC), and is part of this year’s le plug theme. The Tree bears an uncanny resemblance to an anal plug sex toy.
The FIAC will also feature a “Chocolate Factory” exhibit, where workers will produce thousands of chocolate figurines of Santa Claus holding this “emblem.”
The 80ft-high art piece has already sparked controversy on social media, with many saying Place Vendome has been “disfigured” and Paris “humiliated”.
