After several transgender activists and LGBT advocacy groups turned against drag icon RuPaul for his use of words like “shemale” and “tranny” on his program RuPaul’s Drag Race, RuPaul fired back saying the criticism was a product of “fringe people who are looking for storylines to strengthen their identity as victims.”
RuPaul also denied claims by Buzzfeed that Logo TV was distancing itself from him, and took to twitter to defend himself:
Trust! @LogoTV hasn’t “distanced” itself from me, not while I’m still payin’ the f%kin’ light bill over there
— RuPaul (@RuPaul) May 24, 2014
Ru also had some sharp words for the gay “community”:
It’s not the word itself, but the intention behind the word

I’ve been a “tranny” for 32 years. The word “tranny” has never just meant transsexual. #TransvestiteHerstoryLesson
— RuPaul (@RuPaul) May 24, 2014
I’m more “offended/hurt” by the misuse of the word “community”

Pop will eat itself… So will the "Gay Movement"

My intention is to always come from a place of love, but sometimes you just have to break it down for a motherf%ker

What’s your reaction to RuPaul’s response?
