Australian actor Harry Cook, best known for his role as Geena Davis’s son in the coming of age film Accidents Happen and several other major TV roles, has revealed he is gay in a YouTube video uploaded by him on Sunday.
The 22-year-old actor said he was ‘pretty scared about doing this,’ worried about the consequences coming out would have on his acting career. ‘I thought about it for a really long time and really stewed over it. I was like “Oh my God, this could ruin my career.”’
Cook said he feared some directors and producers might be worried that he couldn’t play straight convincingly after his coming out, which he said would be ironic after having ‘played’ straight publicly his whole life until now.F
‘The title of my job is “actor” … it’s fake, it’s pretend, I’m not me. I know how to play straight – I did it all through high school.’
Cook also revealed that he is in a loving relationship, and that he’s “madly in love.”
