Yesterday, we had a chance to catch up with French choreographer Yanis Marshall, the man behind the Paris High Heel Dance video that has now gone viral!
The 23-year-old teaches Street Jazz, Lyrical Jazz and Cabaret in heels at Studio Harmonic in Paris and throughout France internships.
So after featuring Marshall’s fierce dancing in the streets of Paris all while wearing several pairs of nine inch heels, we wanted to know more about this extremely talented Parisian:
Now that your Spice Girls High Heel Dance video has gone viral, have you put some thought into what video you would like to do next?
Yes I have another video in mind, but I want to keep that a surprise. It’s going to be the same director that did my Spice Girl video Fernando De Azevedo. It will have a lot of dancing, Humor, and heels. It will also have some girls in it, but not too much!!! And it will be Beyonce music. Probably for September!
Something like a battle between Gays and women’s !!! Who’s best.. All in heels.
In your bio you say Madonna is one of your biggest Idols, which other artists have inspired your love for dance?
Madonna, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Prince, Beyonce… But my all time favorite singer is Barbra Streisand. Yes I’m as Gay as they come! Oh and Kylie. 😉
What words of advice do you have for anyone who doesn’t feel like they fit in or aren’t accepted for who they are?
“Just be you, and if people don’t like it, well F*ck Them.”
I never said I was trying to be the BEST choreographer, teacher or dancer. But, I’m trying my BEST to inspire people and to be happy. I dance because it’s when I’m most honest and free. And Yes, I’m proud of who I am, And definitely happy to be Gay.
Who has been your dancing inspiration?
Jonte’ is for sure a huge inspiration.
But I have a lot of Dance inspirations – Sheryl Murakami, Brian Friedman, Bobby Newberry, Jonte’ – they are all GENIUS.
Do you have a special name for this type of “high heel” dancing?
Nope, I guess the dance style is Street Jazz. But there is not a special name for it which is good. I hate labels or Boxes.
So tell us, are you single or taken? 😉
Tell the world that I’m single and desperate, tired of watching Ally McBeal and Sex And The City !!! And tired of waiting for my “Prince Charming” Everybody says the right guy is gonna come one day… I think mine took a wrong turn and got hit by a bus.
What qualities should your prince charming have?
I don’t know.. Definitely not be an asshole and not think that all that matters is to go to the gym to have more muscels. Not someone that stays longer then me in the bathroom. Just a guy, I guess, simple. With some hair not to hairy but just enough like a man. Someone that is nice and funny, sarcastic is always good.
Someone that is NOT a dancer or a Choreographer or a Singer.
What are some of your favorite quotes?
“I think I need to believe that it works. Love, Couple-hood, partnerships. The idea that when people come together, they stay together. I have to take that with me when I go to bed at night, even if I’m going to bed alone.”
~ Ally McBeal
“The most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you find someone to love the you that you love, well, that’s just fabulous.”
~ Carrie Bradshaw
