Four years ago, 21-year-old United States Marine Alex Minsky was injured in a horrific roadside explosion in Afghanistan, resulting in the amputation of part of his leg and left him in a coma for 47 days.
To cope with his injuries and unexpected death of his brother, Minsky turned to alcohol.
“I was down,” Minsky told ABC News. “I was numb and I was running away from everything…especially myself, my own head.”
After several DUIs, Minsky quit drinking and hit the gym. “Second day I was sober, I was working out, just doing my thing, and this guy came up to me. He said, ‘I really like the way you look and I want to know if you’ve ever modeled before,'” Minsky said.
Now, Minsky works as a fashion and underwear model. “Alex has inspired me to look at beauty differently,” fashion photographer Tom Cullis said.
